This aptly named cute trail will take you to a great closed-in beach with peninsulas on both sides. The 1/2 mile trail to the beach is full of trees that create little hobbit-like paths.
The Hobbit Trail is in the Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park, and part of the Ocean Shore State Recreation Area. It is part of the larger China Loop Trail, which I can't review because it was closed when we went there. It is VERY popular in the summer and on weekends, but we were here on a Monday morning in January, and had the entire trail and beach to ourselves.

PROS
Short, interesting hike The hike to the beach itself is unique, different than most trails to the beach, and also very easy.
Closed-in beach If your dog is a runner, you can let them go, the beach is created by two peninsulas, so they have to come back at some point.
WATCH OUT
Busy This trail is super packed on weekends and in the summer. Watch out for lots of people, dogs, and kids
Small parking lot The trailhead only has a few parking spaces, not nearly enough to accommodate the number of people here. You can park farther up and walk to the trailhead, but you are walking on Hwy 101 to do so. You can also connect to this trail a number of other ways, but of course that makes the walk much longer.
